Newborn Sessions

The Details:

Congratulations on your growing family! The primary focus of a newborn photography session is placed on the candid nature of your relationship with your new baby in the comfort of your own home. There is minimal formal posing or use of props during these lifestyle sessions. These newborn photography sessions include photos of baby individually, baby+ parent(s), and any siblings as well.

Ideally, newborn sessions take place within the first 2 weeks of baby’s birth. This helps capture their tiny size before the growth spurts and fussiness that tend to appear around the third week. Having experienced the first disorienting weeks of parenthood myself, I would recommend you give yourselves at least a couple of days to adjust to life with your new baby before the session and schedule accordingly.

And don’t worry if you didn’t get a date scheduled within the 2-week window. Adjusting to life with a newborn is not easy and time moves quickly! I will do my best to accommodate older newborns in their own unique lifestyle session photos.

Booking:

To book a newborn session, simply send me a contact form! It is best to contact me at least 4-6 weeks prior to your due date to ensure availability and I will block out a few possible times. Once you deliver your sweet baby, contact me to finalize a date and time.

If you have already given birth to your new baby, contact me anyways! I will do my best to find  availability to photograph your little one while they are still tiny!

A $200 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking and will be applied toward your session total. I will also ask you to complete a signed contract and information form at the time of booking in order to secure your session.

 What to Expect:

On the day of your session, I will arrive to your home and begin by doing a quick tour to determine the best place(s) for set up. I am primarily looking for the best natural lighting and angles for your photographs. Sometimes we have to get creative and move some furniture, but don’t worry about that ahead of time!

Being a new parent is a full time job, so please don’t stress about cleaning your entire home ahead of time! The environments that tend to be best for newborn lifestyle photos are large windows, your nursery, couch, primary bedroom, and outside if weather permits. So just focus on prepping those areas for your session! (I promise I won’t be photographing or judging your sink of dirty dishes!)

The best time of day to do a newborn session is during the day when your home gets the most natural light, so I advise against an evening session. The lighting is generally the only thing we can predict – we are on your baby’s schedule! So if your baby is sleeping, awake, or fussy, don’t stress. I will still be able to capture beautiful photos of these real and genuine moments in your baby’s first weeks of life.

I recommend feeding your baby right before the session begins so they are sleepy, keeping the temperature in your home comfortable, and dressing your baby in just a diaper and a swaddle wrap for the start of the session.

If baby is sleepy at the start of the session, I try to photograph them in just a diaper, and then swaddle them for lightly posed photos. For parents and siblings, I suggest wearing neutral clothing in solid colors that compliment rather than match each other. Bright colors or loud patterns can distract from the focus of the photos (your baby)!

Newborn sessions vary in length, and are generally around 90 minutes, depending on baby. It is likely we will need to pause for feedings and changing and even soothing fussy tempers. Newborn sessions are often experiences of patience. I will work around your little one. They are the star of the show, after all!

Newborn Session Investment:

Newborn Lifestyle Sessions begin at $725 and include 35+ professionally edited images and print rights. Approximately 3 weeks after our session together, you will get that exciting email from me with a password-protected link to your online gallery. You own ALL images in the gallery and will have the ability to download high-resolution files of your photos.

Additional prints and products will also be available for purchase through your gallery. If you would like to order an album, I am here to help you design and create it. While these products are more expensive than printing albums and photos through a big box store, I think you will find the archival quality worth absolutely it! Thank you for supporting my small business.

I’m ready to book a session!
